China Trade merchants moved their operations to the wharves of Boston, including Central Wharf, when Salem’s port became too small to accommodate the increased activity and need for deeper waters. Today, Central Wharf is home to the New England Aquarium and Fidelity Park, providing shaded seating areas, beautiful landscaping and up close views of Boston Harbor.
