Forbes House Museum Receives $1,000,000 Donation

MILTON, MAOctober 11, 2024

The Forbes House Museum has received a $1,000,000 donation to its capital campaign to support restoration of the property’s carriage house and barn, as well as other initiatives vital to the museum’s future.

The anonymous donation is the largest in the museum’s history. Plans for the funds include restoring the carriage house and barn for use as a community resource with flexible event space. Designed by architect Isaiah Rogers, the carriage house was built in 1833 in the same Greek Revival style as the main house. In the late 19th-century, the renowned Boston architecture firm of Peabody & Stearns designed the shingle-style barn addition.

“We’re incredibly grateful for this unprecedented commitment to the Forbes House. This generous gift will help us continue the renovation, as well as invest in other projects to ensure the museum’s long-term sustainability and vibrancy,” said Heidi Vaughan, the museum’s executive director. “With this contribution, our new capital campaign – Charting the Next Adventure – is off to a great start and I’m confident will be successful.”

Work on the first phase of the project, comprising new windows and repairs to the carriage house roof and foundation, is now complete, and the second phase is expected to start this fall.
