This Lunar New Year, Fill a Lucky Red Envelope for Houqua.
Painted by the esteemed Chinese artist Lam Qua, the original oil painting of the Chinese hong merchant Houqua is one of the most significant items in the Forbes House Museum’s collection.
But the centuries have taken their toll on Houqua and the paint is tenting and cracking, making the work dangerously unstable.
It can no longer be displayed, so a print now stands in its place.
How can you help?
To celebrate the Lunar New Year, people distribute red envelopes filled with money to their family and others. The envelopes symbolize wishes for good luck and prosperity.
In that spirit, we’re inviting you to fill a virtual red envelope to give to the Museum. Help us save the Houqua painting with your good wishes!
Simply click on the red envelope and indicate the amount of your donation. We welcome gifts of any size for this important conservation effort. Thank You!
