Since 1833, the Forbes House has stood prominently at the crest of Adams Street in Milton, with a view of Boston Harbor, and today, the city’s skyline in the distance. The stately Greek Revival style mansion is a monument to Boston’s Brahmin past, when families like the Forbeses were amassing great wealth through the China Trade, and using their status and fortunes to advance civic causes and entrepreneurial ventures. The Forbes House Museum preserves and celebrates that history, using its diverse collection to connect a contemporary audience with the Forbes family members, whose aspirations and adventures mirrored America’s development. In the spirit of the family’s commitment to civic engagement, the museum strives to be an inclusive and welcoming community resource with a variety of educational and engaging tours, activities, outreach programs and special events.
